The American author, playwright and magazine editor Fulton Oursler was born in Baltimore in a poor middle-class family. He left school at 15 and started to work as an office boy. In 1910 he got a job as a reporter on the Baltimore News American, and in the same year, aged 17, he married Rose Keller Karger.
