A middle-aged, ordinary security director and former police detective in Edinburgh, who moves to the island of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides after his son has been killed in a road accident. This has also led to the collapse of his marriage with Mona. Fin Macleod is worn-out and sad, but in the so-called Lewis Trilogy by Peter May is involved in crime cases that he solves thanks to his knowledge of the island and its population.

Steve Carella
Male
A central figure in Ed McBain’s (pseudonym for Evan Hunter) books about the 87th police district in Isola is Stephen ‘Steve’ Carella. He is of Italian extraction, and in one of the early books he marries the beautiful and deaf-mute Theodora ‘Teddy’ Franklin, with whom he has twin sons. Detective Carella is tall, dark and muscular without being athletic; he gives an impression of strength and energy.

Paul Brenner

When we worked as an undercover agent for a crime investigation department in the American army, he revealed dangerous facts which led to him being retired early. But the department needed his knowledge and Paul Brenner reluctantly re-entered the service, explains his creator Nelson DeMille. He is a calm, patient, methodical and conscientious police investigator in the fictive town of Causton where he lives with his wife Joyce and daughter Cully. His right-hand man is DS Gavin Troy.
